AIM/ICQ/MSN/YIM Alternative
Don't leave yet! We are aware 95% of you know about Gaim by now (as it is even installed by default in Ubuntu). It's just that it's the best Linux AIM/ICQ/MSN/YIM alternative so it gets mentioned first.

See, I told you we had more! Yes, Gaim has MSN Messenger support but aMSN's goal is to be just like MSN Messenger for Windows. So... on with the true MSN Messenger alternative.

How to install aMSN:
First, open Ubuntu's terminal. Click "Applications", "Accessories" and click "Terminal". You should now see a window like this...
Copy & paste this text into the terminal:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Your window should now look something like this...
Press ENTER on your keyboard and this window now opens...
Delete # that's next to deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy universe, deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy universe. When you do that your window should look like this...
Click "Save" and close this window. You will now be back at your terminal. In the terminal type sudo apt-get update and your window will look like this...
Press ENTER on your keyboard and let it update. When it's done updatng type sudo apt-get install amsn. Your window will now look like this...
Again, press ENTER on your keyboard and aMSN will install.
